Delhi Police Limits Green Cracker Sale to Three Days, Enforces Strict QR Code Check

The Delhi Police has announced strict regulations for the sale and use of firecrackers in the National Capital Region (NCR). The sale of NEERI-certified Green firecrackers will only be permitted for a three-day window, from October 18th to October 20th, 2025. A circular from the police’s legal division mandates the formation of special police patrol teams to enforce this. These teams will be stationed at designated sale locations, with their primary task being to verify that every cracker sold is a certified green product with a valid QR Code.

The patrol teams are instructed to familiarize themselves with the approved products listed on the NEERI website. They are empowered to conduct random checks, take samples for analysis, and immediately confiscate any firecrackers that are unapproved or lack the proper QR code. Violators caught selling non-compliant crackers will face penalties and license cancellations. The order also explicitly bans the sale of joined crackers (Laris), those containing barium, and all online sales via e-commerce platforms.

Furthermore, the use of permitted green crackers is also restricted to specific time slots on the day before Diwali and on the day of Diwali itself: 6:00 am to 7:00 am and 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Police have been directed to ensure that no firecrackers enter the NCR from outside the region. These stringent measures aim to control air pollution and ensure compliance with environmental guidelines during the festive season.
