A key development has occurred in the tragic Kurnool bus fire incident where 19 passengers were killed after a private AC sleeper bus caught fire on October 24. The government has taken swift action, leading to the arrest of the private bus owner. Vemuri Vinod Kumar, the owner of V. Kaveri Travels, was arrested by the police and subsequently presented in court. The judge ordered him to be sent to judicial remand.
Vemuri Vinod Kumar is listed as the second accused in the First Information Report (FIR) for the case. The bus driver, Miriyala Laxmaiah, is the first accused and is already in remand. Cases were registered against both individuals under Sections 125(A) and 106(1) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, which address death caused by negligence and reckless conduct.
The bus, which operated between Telangana and Karnataka via Andhra Pradesh, was registered as a seating vehicle but the owner illegally converted it into a sleeper coach, police revealed. Furthermore, the bus was initially registered in Daman and Diu in 2018 but was re-registered in Odisha this year. The horrific accident, which involved 46 people (including two drivers), took place in the early hours of October 24 near Chinna Tekur village on the outskirts of Kurnool.
