In the recent formation of the NDA government in Bihar, where JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar took the oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time, MLA Shreyasi Singh drew significant attention as she was sworn in as a Minister in his cabinet. Her induction is notable due to her background as an accomplished international shooter.
Born on August 29, 1991, in Gidhaur, Bihar, Shreyasi Singh is renowned for her achievements on the global stage. She secured a Silver Medal in the Double Trap event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, followed by a Gold Medal in the same event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She also won a Bronze Medal in the team event at the 2014 Asian Games. For her contributions to the sport, the Government of India honored her with the Arjuna Award.
Shreyasi Singh is the daughter of former Union Minister Digvijay Singh. Her family has a deep connection to shooting: both her grandfather, Surendra Singh, and her father, Digvijay Singh, served as Presidents of the ‘National Rifle Association of India’. Her mother, Putul Kumari, is also a former Member of Parliament (MP). Shreyasi Singh entered politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2020 and subsequently won the Assembly election from the Jamui constituency. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, she secured a victory with 1,23,868 votes, defeating her RJD opponent, Shamshad.
