Rohit Sharma Offers T20 World Cup Guidance to Team India

Rohit Sharma, the only player to have participated in all nine editions of the T20 World Cup and captained India to the 2024 title, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Indian T20 team despite his international retirement from the format. Speaking at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule reveal event in Mumbai, Rohit stated that he is “always available for advice” to the current T20 setup. He believes his 15 years of experience can greatly contribute to the team’s preparations, especially in understanding and shaping the mindset of the players ahead of the 2026 tournament, which India will co-host with Sri Lanka.

Rohit, who is still active in the ODI format, mentioned that he will utilize the upcoming opportunities to connect with the T20 players. Specifically, he plans to meet several T20 squad members who will be present during the ODI series against South Africa, with the next match scheduled in Ranchi. During these conversations, Rohit intends to discuss strategies, listen to the players, and help find solutions if they face any issues. He was emphatic that while the team is currently on a “great run,” he is ready to dispense advice whenever approached, underscoring his role as a mentor.

While expressing confidence in the current performance of the T20 squad, Rohit Sharma suggested a crucial timeline for their final preparations. He advised that the team should aim to finalize their best playing XI or the final 15-member squad around the time of their series against New Zealand. Rohit, who has also been named the ICC Brand Ambassador for the T20 World Cup 2026, believes this focused approach closer to the tournament will ensure the team is well-settled and strategically sound for their campaign to win a potential third T20 World Cup title.
