Rumors of Imran Khan’s Death Spark Tension at Adiala Jail

Intense speculation is circulating on social media regarding the alleged “secret assassination” of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan while he is detained at Adiala Jail. Following these rumors, Khan’s three sisters—Nooreen Khan, Aleema Khan, and Dr. Uzma Khan—along with leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party, gathered at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, demanding to be allowed to meet him. Khan’s sisters have made serious accusations, claiming that the police brutally attacked them during the demonstration. Furthermore, a post from the official X account of the Balochistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suggesting Khan was killed, has fueled the speculation, though no official confirmation has been issued by any reliable source.

Nooreen Niazi stated that despite their peaceful protest, aimed at expressing concern over Imran Khan’s health, the streetlights in the area were switched off, and Punjab Police personnel brutally attacked them in the darkness. She vehemently claimed, “I am 71 years old. They grabbed my hair, threw me to the ground, and dragged me onto the road, causing me injuries.” She added that other women protesting outside the jail were also slapped and dragged away by the police. The sisters have labeled the violence as cruel and premeditated, and have formally complained to Punjab Police Chief Usman Anwar.

Imran Khan has been detained in Adiala Jail since August 2023, facing trial in numerous cases. His sisters reported that they have been denied access to meet him for three weeks, forcing them to resort to a peaceful, democratic protest. Adding to the controversy, they highlighted that even Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was refused permission seven times when he attempted to meet Khan, with Khan previously alleging that the jail administration is under the control of a military official.
