Amaravati: World-Class Underground Power Infrastructure Underway

Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Human Resources Development, Information Technology, and Real Time Governance, Nara Lokesh, announced on Sunday that world-class underground power infrastructure is being rapidly developed in the state capital, Amaravati. Sharing a video of the ongoing work on ‘X’, Lokesh stated that moving high-tension power lines underground will significantly enhance the reliability, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the capital, ensuring it is built for durability and future-readiness. This underground power infrastructure is a crucial component of the key projects currently being undertaken in the capital region.

The development of Amaravati has gained significant momentum since Prime Minister Narendra Modi relaunched the works in May this year, with the state government starting projects worth Rs 56,000 crore. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently expressed confidence that the development works will be completed by March 2028, claiming that Amaravati will be built to be a source of pride for all of India. He also revealed that the Seed Access Road is nearing completion, and the capital has already been connected to seven national highways, with a new railway line also being laid to the area.

In a major move to facilitate the capital’s expansion, the State Cabinet on Friday approved the second phase of land pooling. This phase involves the acquisition of 16,666 acres across seven villages, with the Cabinet authorizing the APCRDA Commissioner to initiate the land pooling scheme in these areas. CM Naidu had previously stated that the current 29-village footprint was inadequate to build a metropolitan entity comparable to Hyderabad. Overall, the government plans to acquire a total of 30,000 acres across 11 villages, including land for an international airport, adding to the existing 50,000 acres footprint of the capital city.
