Avatar 3: James Cameron’s Epic Dominates China Box Office with Record Pre-Sales

James Cameron’s much-anticipated sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is creating a massive storm at the Chinese box office even before its official release. The film has already secured a significant record among Hollywood releases, showcasing the immense craze for the franchise in the Asian market. In just three days of pre-sales, it has outperformed major 2024–25 blockbusters, signaling a potential box-office explosion upon its global debut.

Shattering Jurassic World Records

According to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, Avatar: Fire and Ash surpassed the $5 million mark in pre-sales within its first three days. Between December 17 and December 21, the film raked in $5.4 million in advance bookings alone. This performance has officially overtaken the pre-sale record of Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth, which managed only $3.9 million in the same market.

Currently, Avatar 3 stands as the second-biggest Hollywood pre-sale of 2025 in China, trailing only behind Zootopia 2. With several days still left before the theatrical release, trade experts believe it could challenge the top spot. The “Avatar” franchise has historically been a juggernaut in China, and “Fire and Ash”—which is expected to explore the “Ash People” and more aggressive sides of Pandora—appears to be continuing that legacy of breaking records.
