Telangana Municipal Polls 2026: Election Schedule Released; Voting on February 11

The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) has officially announced the schedule for the long-awaited municipal elections. State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini, after a high-level meeting with District Collectors and police officials, confirmed that elections will be held for 7 Municipal Corporations and 116 Municipalities. With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across the state. Candidates representing various political parties will contest under their respective party symbols.

As per the official timeline, the nomination process will commence tomorrow (January 28) and continue until January 30. The scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for January 31, while candidates have until February 3 to withdraw their papers. The final polling will take place on February 11, followed by the counting of votes and declaration of results on February 13. Approximately 52.43 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in this election cycle across the designated urban local bodies.

Following the declaration of results, the indirect elections for key leadership positions will be held. On February 16, the newly elected ward members and corporators will elect the Mayors and Deputy Mayors for the corporations, as well as Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons for the municipalities. To ensure transparency, the SEC has established a control room for monitoring and mandated that any individual carrying cash exceeding ₹50,000 must provide valid documentation.
