Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has sparked a massive political storm by alleging that adulterated ghee, manufactured using chemicals used for cleaning bathrooms, was supplied to the Tirumala temple during the previous YSRCP regime. Speaking at the “Mee Bhoomi – Mee Hakku” program in Kurnool district on February 6, 2026, the Chief Minister claimed that the desecration of the sacred Tirumala Laddu was far more severe than previously imagined. He emphasized that the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) report had already confirmed the presence of animal fat, but the inclusion of toxic cleaning agents represents a new low in administrative corruption.
Expanding the scope of his allegations, Chandrababu Naidu stated that the contamination was not limited to Tirumala but extended to the Srisailam temple as well. He accused the previous government of supplying sub-standard and chemically tainted ghee to all major temples across the state, thereby compromising the sanctity of the Prasadam consumed by millions of devotees. The CM noted that upon taking office, his government immediately replaced the TTD Executive Officer and appointed a new Principal Secretary to restore the purity and quality of temple offerings, asserting that there is now a visible difference in the taste and quality of the Laddus.
The Chief Minister’s remarks have intensified the ongoing war of words between the ruling coalition and the opposition. While the YSRCP has previously claimed that the CBI gave a “clean chit” regarding the animal fat controversy, Naidu dismissed these claims as fabrications, insisting that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and lab reports provide undeniable proof of the scam. As the state government continues its probe into the ₹254 crore ghee scandal, these new allegations regarding the use of industrial chemicals are expected to further heat up the political climate in Andhra Pradesh.
