“Trust is India’s Strongest Currency”: PM Modi Strengthens Ties with Malaysia

During his two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora, emphasizing that India has emerged as a globally trusted partner for growth. He noted that major economies—including the UK, UAE, USA, and the EU—have actively sought trade deals with India, proving that “trust” has become the nation’s most valuable international asset. Accompanied by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a notable show of camaraderie, PM Modi highlighted that India’s economic success is intrinsically linked to the prosperity of Malaysia and the broader Asian region.

The Prime Minister introduced a new acronym, IMPACT, standing for the India-Malaysia Partnership for Advancing Collective Transformation, to serve as the blueprint for future bilateral relations. This partnership is a critical component of India’s Act East Policy and its Indo-Pacific vision. PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the warm cultural welcome he received and praised the Malaysian-Indian community—the second-largest in the world—for acting as a living bridge between the two nations and preserving their shared heritage over several centuries.

To further deepen cultural ties, PM Modi announced the establishment of a Thiruvalluvar Centre to complement the existing chair at the University of Malaya, honoring the profound influence of the Tamil diaspora. He also invited the community to participate in the “Incredible India” experience and encourage their Malay friends to visit, reinforcing that people-to-people contact is the bedrock of diplomatic friendship. The visit marks a significant step in elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between the two countries in 2024.
