The Visakhapatnam police have apprehended a notorious “stylish thief” identified as Achi Mahesh Reddy, alias Sunny, a former software engineer who turned to crime to fund a lavish lifestyle. Despite holding a high-profile IT job in Hyderabad and having an advanced education, Mahesh Reddy allegedly committed over 60 house burglaries across Andhra Pradesh. His criminal history dates back to age 15, involving multiple stints in juvenile homes and jails, including 14 months in Rajahmundry Central Jail.
High-End Recoveries and Modus Operandi
During the arrest, Gajuwaka police recovered a significant haul of stolen goods and luxury items purchased with the proceeds of his crimes. The seizure included:
-
700 grams of gold and 3.8 kg of silver ornaments.
-
A luxury BMW car and a scooter.
-
Specialized tools used for housebreaking. The police revealed that while he lived a sophisticated life in Hyderabad, he would frequently travel to Visakhapatnam specifically to target residential areas, looting property worth over ₹25 lakhs in recent months alone.
A Career Criminal Background
Investigations uncovered that Mahesh Reddy was a habitual offender with over 32 cases registered against him in various stations, including Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, and Indrapalem. He had mastered the art of blending into society as a professional techie while maintaining a secret life as a prolific burglar. The police intensified their surveillance following a string of recent thefts in Vizag, eventually tracking him down through technical evidence. He is now in custody as officials investigate potential links to other unsolved cases in the region.
