Unanimous Election of Office Bearers
Senior director RK Selvamani has been unanimously elected as the President of the Tamil Film Directors Association (TANTIS) for the 2026-2028 term. Selvamani, who is the husband of former Andhra Pradesh Minister and YSRCP leader Roja, previously served as the General Secretary of the association. Along with him, veteran filmmakers KS Ravikumar and P. Vasu were elected unopposed as Vice Presidents. This consensus reflects a unified front within the association, which has a history of high-stakes competitive elections.
Other Key Appointments
The election process also saw the unanimous selection of several other crucial administrative roles. RV Udayakumar has been appointed as the General Secretary, while director Perarasu will serve as the Treasurer. While these top leadership positions were decided by consensus, the remaining administrative posts, including five Joint Secretary positions and 17 Executive Committee member slots, will go to polls. These elections are scheduled to be held on February 15, 2026, where approximately 1,800 registered members are expected to cast their votes.
Role and Oversight
The entire election process is being overseen by retired judge Justice Tharveesh, acting as the Election Officer to ensure transparency and adherence to democratic norms. RK Selvamani is a prominent figure in the industry, also heading the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), a powerful umbrella organization of 24 unions. His leadership comes at a time when the association aims to strengthen welfare schemes for its members and navigate the evolving challenges of digital transformation in Tamil cinema.
