The health of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly taken a drastic turn for the worse while in judicial custody at Adiala Jail. According to a comprehensive report submitted by the court-appointed mediator (Amicus Curiae), Salman Safdar, Khan has lost approximately 85% of the vision in his right eye. The report highlights that this deterioration is a direct result of “deliberate, inhumane, and illegal” treatment by jail authorities, who allegedly ignored his repeated requests for medical attention over several months.
The findings suggest that Khan has been kept in solitary confinement for over two years and four months, a condition his legal team describes as a violation of constitutional rights. The report further claims that:
-
Medical Neglect: Khan’s personal physicians were denied access, and specialized eye care was not provided despite warnings.
-
Isolation: For five months, he was barred from meeting his legal team, hindering his ability to participate in ongoing court proceedings.
-
Family Access: Restrictions were so tight that he was only recently allowed to meet his wife once a week.
The Amicus Curiae has issued an urgent recommendation to the Pakistan Supreme Court, calling for an immediate examination by expert ophthalmologists and the restoration of his legal and family visitation rights. Proponents of Khan and his political party, PTI, have blamed the federal government and the military establishment for this “vengeful” treatment, warning that any further delay in treatment could lead to permanent disability or a life-threatening crisis for the former premier.
