Revanth Reddy Proposes Shamshabad as the Hub for India’s New High-Speed Rail Corridors

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has formally requested the Central Government to establish the starting points for three newly announced high-speed rail corridors at Shamshabad, the site of the Hyderabad International Airport. During a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Thursday with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Chief Minister offered 500 acres of land near the airport to facilitate the construction of these terminals. He envisioned Shamshabad transforming into a strategic “tri-junction,” connecting Hyderabad to Chennai (778 km), Bengaluru (586 km), and Pune (556 km) via bullet trains announced in the Union Budget 2026-27.

In addition to passenger connectivity, the Chief Minister emphasized the industrial potential of these routes. He specifically requested a rail link from the Hyderabad-Chennai corridor (passing through Amaravati) to Bandar Port. This move is intended to accelerate the movement of goods from Telangana’s proposed dry ports to international waters. Reddy also highlighted plans to develop the Kodangal, Tekalkode, and Daulatabad regions into industrial zones, leveraging the proximity to limestone deposits and the cement industries of neighboring Karnataka.

Addressing regional infrastructure, Revanth Reddy urged the Railway Minister to complete the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line using central funds, noting that the state has already committed to bearing all land acquisition costs. He argued that this line is crucial for developing Tekalkode into a manufacturing hub for textiles and cement. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Minister Vaishnaw responded positively to these proposals, signaling a potential acceleration in land acquisition and project commencement for Telangana’s ambitious rail roadmap.
