Prakash Raj Leaks His Role in Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’

The anticipation for SS Rajamouli’s upcoming global action-adventure, ‘Varanasi’, starring Superstar Mahesh Babu, has reached a fever pitch. While the director has been tight-lipped about the project, versatile actor Prakash Raj recently stirred social media by revealing details about his involvement. In a recent interview, the actor confirmed that he has completed a magnificent filming schedule for the movie, which he claims has deeply satisfied his “hunger” as a performer. He expressed his gratitude to Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran for the experience.

Initially, rumors suggested that Prakash Raj might be playing Mahesh Babu’s father in the film. However, during a news channel debate, the actor clarified that he is portraying the role of an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. This revelation aligns perfectly with the film’s title and its spiritual undertones. Prakash Raj has a history of playing significant roles in Rajamouli’s films (such as Vikramarkudu) and has shared a highly successful screen chemistry with Mahesh Babu in numerous blockbusters ranging from Rajakumarudu to Guntur Kaaram.

‘Varanasi’ is being produced on a massive international budget and is slated for a Summer 2026 release. Rajamouli has previously confirmed that Mahesh Babu will be seen in the character of ‘Rudra,’ while Priyanka Chopra plays ‘Mandakini’ and Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on the role of ‘Kumbha.’ Interestingly, the director also hinted at a Ramayana-inspired sequence where Mahesh Babu will appear as Lord Rama for a few minutes. With the addition of Prakash Raj as a powerful Shiva devotee, the film promises to be a grand blend of high-octane adventure and Indian mythology.
