During his significant second visit to Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s unwavering stance against terrorism while addressing the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset. Highlighting the shared pain of both nations, he drew a poignant parallel between the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. As the first Indian Prime Minister to ever address the Knesset, Modi emphasized that India stands firmly with Israel in its fight against extremism, noting that the bilateral relationship is “written in blood and sacrifice,” dating back to the bravery of Indian soldiers in the Battle of Haifa during World War I.
A particularly striking highlight of the speech was PM Modi’s mention of a personal connection to the diplomatic history between the two countries. He noted that he was born on the very same day that India officially recognized the State of Israel—September 17, 1950. This symbolic coincidence served to underscore the deep-rooted bond he feels with the nation. He further reiterated that the partnership has evolved into a strategic necessity, covering vital sectors from defense to technology, and expressed pride in the growing “Hexagon” alliance involving India and Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warmly welcomed Modi, describing him as a “friend beyond a leader” and praising India’s rapid development under his stewardship. Netanyahu highlighted the ancient civilizational links between the Indus Valley and the Jordan Valley, noting that trade and cooperation between the two modern states have doubled in recent years. The visit not only strengthened security and economic ties but also celebrated a shared cultural heritage, marking a new chapter in the “limitless” friendship between India and Israel.
