Eligibility and Program Launch:
The government has officially started the HPV vaccination drive in government hospitals, specifically targeting girls between the ages of 9 and 14. This initiative aims to provide early protection against cervical cancer, as the vaccine is most effective when administered at a young age before exposure to the virus. Medical staff across various cities have been trained to ensure the smooth rollout of the immunization campaign in government health facilities.
Required Documents for Vaccination:
To avail of the free vaccine, there is no complex registration process. However, parents or guardians must provide proof of the girl’s age to the hospital authorities. You can carry any one of the following valid documents:
-
Aadhaar Card
-
Birth Certificate
-
School ID Card
These documents are necessary to verify that the recipient falls within the eligible 9–14 age bracket.
Market Value vs. Government Initiative:
In the private market, the HPV vaccine is quite expensive, with a single dose often costing between ₹4,000 to ₹10,000. For many families, this high cost has been a barrier to protection. By making it available for free at government hospitals and primary health centers, the government is ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent young girls from receiving this life-saving protection against a disease that remains a major health challenge for women.
