Tension in Khammam: Kalvakuntla Kavitha Arrested During Protest Over Velugumatla Bhoodan Lands

High tension prevailed at the ZP Center in Khammam on Monday as police arrested Telangana Jagruthi President Kalvakuntla Kavitha. She was leading a massive protest in support of the victims displaced from the Bhoodan Yagna Board lands in the Velugumatla area. Demanding an immediate resolution to the issues faced by the victims, Kavitha took to the streets, resulting in a direct confrontation with the law enforcement authorities. Along with her, BC, SC, ST JAC Chairman Visharadhan and several other protesters were taken into custody.

The unrest began with a rally organized by Kavitha, which started from the Velugumatla area and proceeded toward the Ambedkar Center. Upon reaching the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Kavitha submitted a formal memorandum seeking justice for the displaced families. The situation escalated when the protesters moved to the Khammam ZP Center and staged a Rasta Roko (road blockade), effectively halting vehicle movement. The blockade caused significant traffic congestion in the surrounding areas, prompting the police to deploy a large force to bring the situation under control.

As the atmosphere grew increasingly volatile, police moved in to disperse the crowd and detain the key leaders. Kavitha was subsequently shifted to the Nelakondapalli Police Station. Supporters of the movement expressed their outrage over the arrests, asserting that the protest was a peaceful attempt to highlight the plight of those who lost their lands. The local administration remains on high alert to prevent further outbreaks of protest in the city, while the victims continue to demand a permanent settlement for their grievances.
