Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the construction of the prestigious JSW Rayalaseema Steel Plant at Sunnapurallapalle in Jammalamadugu Mandal of Kadapa district. The project, being developed at an estimated cost of ₹16,350 crore, marks one of the state’s biggest industrial investments. The Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated the Jindal Industrial Park in Vizianagaram district during the event.
Addressing the gathering, Chandrababu said the steel plant marked the beginning of a new era for Rayalaseema, transforming it into a major industrial and investment hub. He stated that the region was no longer drought-prone but had evolved into a prosperous area with strong agricultural and horticultural potential. He added that the project would generate large-scale employment and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a leading steel-producing state.
The Chief Minister criticized the previous government, alleging that despite multiple foundation-laying ceremonies, no meaningful progress had been made on the project. He said the present government cleared hurdles, allocated 1,100 acres of land, and ensured the project’s implementation. The steel plant will produce two million tonnes in two phases, while JSW Chairman Sajjan Jindal has also expressed interest in making additional investments in the state.
