Himachal CM Releases First Comprehensive Water Laws Compendium

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday released “Water Laws of Himachal Pradesh,” the state’s first comprehensive compendium bringing together major laws, rules, policy notifications, technical manuals, and administrative guidelines related to water supply, sewerage, and irrigation. Prepared by the Jal Shakti Vibhag, the publication is intended to serve as a single reference document for government officials, engineers, contractors, and the public.

The Chief Minister said the compendium would improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in water resource management by providing easy access to the legal and procedural framework governing the department. He praised the Jal Shakti Vibhag for compiling decades of legal, technical, and administrative provisions into a single volume, which will help officials make informed decisions and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.

Highlighting the state’s achievements, Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh has provided tap water connections to 99.9 percent of households under the Jal Jeevan Mission and was recognised with the National Water Award 2026 for its efforts in sustainable water management. He added that the publication would also help contractors better understand tendering procedures and financial norms, while enabling citizens to access information on water tariffs, service guarantees, and accredited water quality testing laboratories more easily.
