India captain Shubman Gill has moved closer to the No.1 position in the latest ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings announced on Wednesday. Gill earned 12 rating points after scoring a brilliant 80 runs in the first ODI against England in Birmingham. While New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell continues to lead the rankings with 814 rating points, Gill is now in second place, just 11 points behind the top-ranked batter. India also secured a convincing six-wicket victory in the match.
Senior Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, however, slipped in the rankings after disappointing performances in the same match. Kohli managed just five runs and lost 11 rating points, dropping to third place with 757 points. Rohit Sharma scored 11 runs, lost 10 rating points, and is now ranked fourth with 744 points.
England’s Joe Root climbed to joint 12th position after remaining unbeaten with a half-century in the opening ODI. India’s wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul also continues to occupy the joint 12th spot in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings.
