Fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been named in the South Africa squad for the upcoming T20I series against India (December 9-19), marking his return after recovering from a stress reaction injury. Nortje, 32, last played for the Proteas in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup final. Head coach Shukri Conrad welcomed Nortje back, highlighting the importance of having players who can step up when others are unavailable, though noting the absence of Kagiso Rabada for this tour.
Batter Rubin Hermann has earned a call-up for the ODI leg of the tour (November 30 to December 6). Hermann, a wicketkeeper-batter, made his ODI debut earlier this month against Pakistan. The ODI series will be captained by Temba Bavuma and will be played in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam. The T20I side will be led by Aiden Markram and will feature matches in Cuttack, New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad, with David Miller also returning to the squad.
Coach Conrad emphasized the significance of this white-ball tour, stating that the T20I series is crucial for finalizing the squad ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in India. The 50-over matches, meanwhile, are seen as an opportunity to assess the team’s standing and build the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The full ODI squad consists of 15 players, while the T20I squad has 16 members, including newcomers and returning veterans.
