Domestic Violence Case Filed in Mumbai Court
Actor and former Miss India Celina Jaitly has moved the Andheri magistrate court in Mumbai, filing a detailed application against her Austrian husband, businessman Peter Haag, under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.1 Jaitly alleges that she was subjected to severe emotional, physical, verbal, and financial abuse throughout their marriage, which was registered in Austria in 2010.2 The extent of the alleged abuse was so severe that she claims she was forced to flee their home in Austria and return to India on October 11, leaving her three children behind.3 The court has since issued a notice to Haag, with the next hearing fixed for December 12.4
Significant Financial Claims and Abuse Allegations
Jaitly is seeking substantial monetary relief from her husband.5 Her plea demands ₹10 lakh a month in maintenance and an unprecedented ₹50 crore as compensation for the loss of earnings allegedly resulting from years of abuse, which compelled her to abandon her successful acting career.6 The complaint outlines a pattern of financial coercion, including allegations that Haag took ownership of her Indian property, sold their joint property in Vienna without her knowledge, and confiscated her personal belongings, including her Miss India crown.7 Jaitly’s application also seeks ₹1.26 crore for losses related to property removal and ₹32 lakh for misappropriation of funds.
Allegations of Emotional Cruelty and Restricted Access to Children
The detailed complaint recounts several alleged incidents of cruelty, ranging from Haag demanding expensive gifts from her family before marriage to subsequent abuse during their honeymoon and around the time of the birth of their twins in 2012.8 Jaitly alleges she endured repeated verbal and racist insults that caused her deep psychological distress, despite her professional accomplishments as a Miss Universe runner-up and respected actress.9 A key concern for Jaitly is the custody of her children, as she claims Haag has blocked all access to them, except for a single interaction on November 14.10 This legal action in Mumbai comes as Haag has also initiated divorce proceedings in an Austrian court.11
