Chennai Rail Alert: Charminar Express and Other Key Trains Diverted to Chennai Beach

The Chennai Egmore station is currently undergoing a massive modernization project aimed at upgrading platforms and tracks to provide international-standard facilities. To facilitate these engineering works and manage rail traffic, Southern Railway has decided to temporarily shift the terminal for several major trains. Starting from February 4, 2026, these trains will no longer operate from Chennai Egmore but will instead be redirected to the nearby Chennai Beach railway station.

The most notable change affects the Hyderabad – Chennai Charminar Express (Train No. 12759/12760). From February 4 to April 5, 2026, the train will commence its journey from Chennai Beach. For the return trip, it will terminate at Chennai Beach between February 3 and April 4. Additionally, the Chennai Beach – Mumbai CSMT Superfast Express (Train No. 22158) will also start its journey from Chennai Beach during this period. Another express train is scheduled to follow a similar diversion, ending its run at Chennai Beach rather than Egmore.

Passengers are advised to plan their travel accordingly and head to Chennai Beach for boarding instead of the usual Egmore station. While departure timings are expected to remain largely unchanged, travelers should allow for extra commute time within the city to reach the alternative station. For the latest real-time updates and schedule confirmations, passengers should monitor the IRCTC website or contact official railway inquiry numbers to avoid last-minute confusion.
