The Telangana High Court on Friday, February 6, 2026, heard a bail petition filed by Ravi, the alleged mastermind behind the popular piracy website iBomma. Ravi, who has been in custody for the past three months, requested release on the grounds that the primary investigation is complete and he is willing to cooperate with the law. However, the Public Prosecutor (PP), Palle Nageswar Rao, strongly opposed the plea, arguing that Ravi holds citizenship in the Caribbean Islands and poses a high flight risk if granted bail.
During the proceedings, the Public Prosecutor highlighted that the film industry continues to file fresh complaints against the iBomma website, necessitating ongoing police investigations. He expressed concerns that providing Ravi with freedom at this stage could allow him to escape to a foreign jurisdiction where the reach of local law is limited. The prosecution maintains that the scale of movie piracy linked to his platform has caused significant financial damage to the entertainment industry.
In defense, Ravi’s counsel argued that the fear of him fleeing is unfounded as the police have already seized his passport. They emphasized that his continued detention is unnecessary since the initial questioning is over. Following these arguments, the High Court directed the Public Prosecutor to verify and confirm whether the passport is indeed in police custody. The court has adjourned the matter, with the next hearing scheduled for Monday.
