PM Modi’s Vision 2047: India Aims to Become a Global AI Superpower

In a significant interview with ANI during the AI Impact Summit 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined a bold roadmap for India’s technological future. He emphasized that by 2047, the centenary of India’s independence, the nation must secure a position among the top three global AI superpowers. The Prime Minister’s vision is rooted in the philosophy of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (for the welfare and happiness of all), ensuring that Artificial Intelligence serves as a tool for social empowerment rather than just an elite technological advancement.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that AI is currently at a “civilizational turning point” with the potential to exponentially expand human capability. He detailed how the government is integrating AI with India’s robust Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)—such as Aadhaar and UPI—to revolutionize governance, healthcare, and agriculture. From early disease detection in rural health centers to providing real-time agricultural advisories through the ‘Bharat Vistar’ initiative, the goal is to bridge the urban-rural divide and make high-end technology accessible to the common citizen in their regional languages.

Addressing concerns regarding safety and job security, the Prime Minister advocated for a balanced approach of “innovation with regulation.” He noted the establishment of the India AI Safety Institute in 2025 to combat threats like deepfakes and algorithmic bias. Modi reassured the youth that AI would act as a “force multiplier” for professionals like doctors and teachers rather than a replacement for jobs. By investing heavily in semiconductor manufacturing and specialized AI Centers of Excellence, India is transitioning from being a mere consumer of technology to a sovereign creator of global digital solutions.
