Smart Footwear Tracking in Tirumala: TTD’s Tech-Driven Solution Enhances Pilgrim Convenience

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has successfully implemented a QR code-based smart footwear tracking and management system to resolve long-standing issues faced by devotees. Launched in September 2025 in collaboration with Coromandel International Limited, this high-tech system allows pilgrims to deposit their footwear easily and retrieve them quickly after their darshan. According to TTD, between September 2025 and February 15, 2026, the system managed over 8.45 lakh transactions, significantly reducing the chaos and confusion that previously existed at crowded footwear counters.

This initiative has not only improved the efficiency of footwear delivery but has also contributed to the overall cleanliness of the Tirumala premises. In the past, footwear was often left scattered in high-traffic areas, causing inconvenience to devotees and creating an unorganized environment. With the new tracking system, pilgrims have reported a major reduction in instances of lost or misplaced shoes. TTD’s data shows that out of 4,24,047 pairs deposited, 4,21,769 pairs have already been successfully returned to their owners, reflecting a high success rate and increased devotee satisfaction.

Encouraged by these positive results, TTD officials are planning to expand the system by adding more counters and increasing the number of personnel in high-density areas. New centers are set to be established soon at locations such as the Bedi Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Kalyanakatta, and the ATC Circle. TTD continues to encourage devotees to utilize these designated counters, especially since wearing footwear is strictly prohibited on the Mada Streets surrounding the main temple, ensuring a more pleasant and organized spiritual experience for all.
