The Telangana government has issued fresh orders to provide financial relief to beneficiaries of the previous BRS government’s “Grihalakshmi” scheme. Many of these housing projects, which offered ₹3 lakh for home construction on private land, were halted midway due to the change in government and policy shifts in 2023. Under the new directive, these incomplete structures will now be brought under the umbrella of the Indiramma Housing Scheme, ensuring that families struggling with stalled construction can finally complete their homes.
To implement this transition, the government has established specific guidelines for field-level verification. Officials will inspect existing foundations and pillars to select eligible beneficiaries. According to Indiramma standards, the house foundation must span between 400 and 600 square feet. If a Grihalakshmi foundation is smaller than this requirement, additional foundation beams must be added. Notably, since the initial stage (foundation) is already complete for these houses, the government will not release funds for that specific phase but will cover the subsequent stages of construction.
The total financial assistance under the Indiramma scheme is higher, and the remaining ₹4 lakh will be deposited directly into the beneficiaries’ accounts in a staggered manner. The payment structure is divided into three major milestones: ₹1 lakh will be released when the construction reaches the roof level, ₹2 lakh once the slab is completed, and the final ₹1 lakh after the entire house is finished and ready for occupation. This decision is expected to benefit thousands of families across the state who have been living in unfinished structures for years.
