The town of Kamareddy witnessed intense clashes on Saturday following a heated exchange of allegations between Congress and BJP leaders. The conflict began when senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali accused BJP MLA Venkataramana Reddy of encroaching on “Arora lands.” In response, the MLA challenged Congress leaders to a public debate at his camp office. The situation escalated quickly when Congress workers, led by former Sarpanch Mahender Reddy, attempted to march toward the MLA’s office, leading to a violent confrontation with waiting BJP supporters.
The standoff turned violent as both factions engaged in stone-pelting and physical scuffles. In a shocking turn of events, agitated BJP workers attacked Mahender Reddy’s car, smashing its windows before eventually overturning the vehicle entirely. The incident, reportedly triggered by slogans raised against the MLA, created a sense of panic in the locality. To prevent further casualties, the police had to intervene forcefully, taking several leaders into custody and dispersing the crowd.
In a bid to restore law and order, the police placed MLA Venkataramana Reddy under house arrest and deployed a massive force at his residence and the proposed debate venue. Authorities have currently implemented Section 144-style restrictions around the MLA’s camp office and other sensitive areas to prevent regrouping of political cadres. While several key activists from both parties have been detained, the atmosphere in Kamareddy remains extremely tense as political rivalry continues to simmer over the land grabbing accusations.
