WhatsApp Bolsters Security: New Alphanumeric Passwords and Message Scheduling Features Unveiled

Enhanced Login Protection: WhatsApp is significantly upgrading its account security by introducing an additional layer of protection. Users will soon be able to set a complex alphanumeric password ranging from 6 to 20 characters, which must include at least one letter and one number. Currently in the testing phase for Android beta users, this feature aims to prevent unauthorized access and protect against common threats like SIM swap fraud. This new security layer will be required alongside the standard six-digit verification code and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) PIN during a new login.

Customizable and Optional Security: According to reports from WABetaInfo, this alphanumeric password feature will be optional, allowing users to choose whether they want the extra level of protection. Once enabled via the app settings, it acts as a secondary gatekeeper. By requiring more than just a simple numeric PIN, WhatsApp is making it much harder for hackers to compromise accounts through automated attacks or stolen verification codes, ensuring that chat data remains strictly in the hands of the owner.

Message Scheduling and Formatting Updates: Beyond security, WhatsApp is also developing a highly anticipated “Message Scheduling” feature. This will allow users to pre-set a specific date and time for messages to be sent automatically, with a dedicated section to review or delete scheduled messages before they are delivered. Additionally, a new “Spoiler Text” formatting option is in the works for both Android and iOS, enabling users to hide specific text content until the recipient taps on it—perfect for avoiding unwanted plot reveals or sensitive information.
