During his visit to the Velugumatla area in Khammam district, BRS Working President K. Chandrashekar Rao (KTR) met directly with families residing on Bhoodan lands to address their ongoing grievances. The victims, many of whom are impoverished workers living in temporary huts on government-claimed land, shared their distress over the harsh treatment they have faced from authorities. KTR offered his full support, emphasizing that the party would stand by the poor and continue the struggle until justice is served and their right to shelter is recognized.
KTR took a strong stance against the current government’s perceived indifference, declaring that the BRS party is prepared to take the legal battle all the way to the Supreme Court of India if necessary. He assured the residents that the party would provide the required legal aid to navigate any hurdles and promised to raise the issue prominently in the Legislative Assembly. By bringing the victims’ plight to the floor of the House, KTR aims to exert maximum pressure on the government to regularize these lands and protect the residents from further eviction threats.
The victims expressed deep emotional turmoil during the interaction, questioning why their struggle for a basic roof over their heads was being treated as a crime. Many explained that they had migrated for work and have lived in these settlements for years, yet they are consistently denied land titles (pattas) and face the constant fear of demolition. Echoing these humanitarian concerns, BRS leaders demanded that the government approach the land issue with empathy rather than bureaucracy, focusing on the welfare of the vulnerable citizens who have no other place to call home.
