India delivered a stinging rebuttal to Pakistan at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, describing Islamabad as living in a “la-la land.” Representing India, First Secretary Anupama Singh exercised the ‘Right of Reply’ after Pakistan once again raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue. India categorically rejected Pakistan’s allegations, pointing out the irony of receiving lectures on democracy from a nation where civilian governments rarely complete their terms and internal crises are deepening.
A key highlight of India’s response was the comparison of developmental scales. Singh noted that Pakistan finds it “unbelievable” that the Jammu and Kashmir developmental budget is more than double the recent bailout package Islamabad sought from the IMF. India emphasized that while Pakistan remains mired in economic instability, J&K is surging ahead with massive infrastructure projects, such as the Chenab Rail Bridge—the world’s highest rail bridge—which serves as a concrete testimony to the region’s progress.
India further asserted that the record voter turnouts in recent general and Assembly elections prove that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the ideology of terrorism propagated by Pakistan. Reaffirming that the region is an “integral and inalienable part of India,” the statement called upon Pakistan to vacate illegally occupied territories. India concluded by advising Pakistan to focus on its own “deepening internal crises” rather than masking them with “grandstanding” and “incessant propaganda” on international platforms.
