Coal India Limited (CIL), a prominent Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, has officially released its recruitment notification for 2026, inviting applications for 660 Management Trainee (MT) positions. This significant hiring drive covers a wide range of disciplines, including Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, System (IT), Geology, and even specialized roles like Rajbhasha (Hindi) and Company Secretary. Interested candidates can begin submitting their applications through the official Coal India website starting May 12, 2026, with the registration window closing on June 11, 2026.
The primary attraction of this recruitment is the lucrative pay structure, which has recently seen a substantial upgrade. Selected candidates will be placed in the E-1 grade during their mandatory one-year training period, with a pay scale ranging from ₹60,000 to ₹1,80,000. Upon successful completion of training and regularization, employees become eligible for further career progression into E-2 and E-3 grades, where the upper salary limit can reach up to ₹2,20,000. In addition to the basic pay, employees are entitled to several PSU benefits, including Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), medical facilities, and performance-related pay (PRP).
The selection process for the 2026 cycle marks a major shift, as Coal India has moved away from the traditional GATE-score-based recruitment to an independent Computer-Based Test (CBT) model. This means that final selection will be determined solely by the marks obtained in the online examination, with no personal interview required for these roles. Candidates must be under the age of 30 (as of April 30, 2026) and hold a relevant full-time degree with a minimum of 60% marks to be eligible. This move is expected to open doors for a broader pool of engineering and management graduates seeking a stable and high-paying career in the energy sector.
