POCSO Case Against Bandi Bhagirath: CM Revanth Reddy Orders Immediate Inquiry

A major political controversy has erupted in Telangana following the registration of a POCSO case against Bandi Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has taken a serious view of the matter, directing Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand to initiate an immediate investigation. The CM expressed dissatisfaction over the perceived delay in action, as the complaint was reportedly filed on May 8th but saw significant progress only recently.

The case was registered at the Pet Basheerabad Police Station following a complaint from the mother of a 17-year-old girl. According to the allegations, Bhagirath harassed the minor at multiple locations, including a farmhouse in Moinabad. The charges filed include sections under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, as well as relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act for allegedly circulating inappropriate content on social media. The DGP explained the delay to the CM by citing the heavy police deployment required for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Hyderabad.

In a counter-move, Bandi Bhagirath has filed a complaint in Karimnagar, alleging that he is the victim of a “Honey Trap.” He claimed that the girl and her family pressured him into marriage and resorted to filing criminal cases when he refused their proposal. Union Minister Bandi Sanjay has defended his son, terming the allegations a political conspiracy orchestrated by his opponents. Following the Chief Minister’s orders, a special investigation team has been formed to conduct a comprehensive probe into both the harassment claims and the counter-allegations.
