Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has finally broken his silence regarding international reports claiming that US President Donald Trump heavily criticized and warned him during a recent phone call. Netanyahu completely dismissed the rumors of a strategic rift between the two nations regarding Middle East diplomacy. While asserting that both countries stand firmly united on countering Iran’s nuclear threat, he casually downplayed Trump’s harsh remarks, comparing them to minor disagreements that typically occur within close families.
The tension reportedly arose from a phone call between the two leaders while Washington was attempting to safeguard its diplomatic channels with Iran. Trump expressed immense frustration after Iran halted its backchannel talks following Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon and Beirut. During the call, Trump allegedly snapped at Netanyahu, saying, “Are you crazy? If it weren’t for me, you’d be in jail by now. I am the one protecting you, and because of your actions, everyone hates you and Israel right now.” Trump later softened his stance, clarifying that he wasn’t angry with Netanyahu but was merely “a little upset” that Israel continued its strikes during delicate diplomatic negotiations.
During a recent interview, Netanyahu strongly reaffirmed the unbreakable bond between Israel and the United States, neutralizing speculations about any permanent divide. “We might have differences of opinion in the morning, but by afternoon, we are back on the same page,” Netanyahu remarked. He added that even the closest of friends do not have to see eye-to-eye on every issue. “Even in the best of families, temporary friction is perfectly natural. We are excellent friends, and we always find a way to resolve our issues,” he said, taking the exchange lightly.
Focusing heavily on the threat posed by Iran during the interview, Netanyahu stated that Washington and Jerusalem share an identical strategy to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. He observed that the Iranian leadership is currently under immense domestic and international pressure. Describing Trump as “the greatest friend” Israel has ever had, Netanyahu concluded by revealing that he speaks with the US President every couple of days, effectively putting an end to the widespread rumors of a diplomatic falling out.
