A high-profile meeting between top Tamil Nadu BJP leaders and superstar Rajinikanth at his Poes Garden residence in Chennai has triggered intense political speculation. The BJP delegation, led by state president Nainar Nagendran and accompanied by state in-charge Aravind Menon, paid a visit to the veteran actor on Tuesday. While Nagendran officially downplayed the meeting on social media as a mere courtesy call—sharing that they presented Rajinikanth with a book highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years of governance—political analysts suggest the rendezvous carries deep political undertones.
The meeting comes at a turbulent time for the Tamil Nadu BJP following the high-stakes resignation of former IPS officer K. Annamalai. Since leaving the party, Annamalai’s newly launched social movement has gained massive public traction, threatening the local BJP leadership’s hold on the region. According to sources close to Nagendran, the party delegation reportedly requested Rajinikanth to maintain a politically neutral stance and specifically urged him not to extend his influential support to Annamalai as he maps out his next moves. However, a separate faction within the BJP has dismissed these rumors, claiming the visit had nothing to do with internal party friction.
This strategic move by Nainar Nagendran is being viewed as an attempt to consolidate his authority and solidify the BJP’s presence in a rapidly evolving political landscape. With actor Vijay’s political outfit, the TVK, aggressively asserting itself and opposition competition intensifying in the state, the BJP is actively reviewing its regional strategy. Ensuring that a massive cultural icon like Rajinikanth remains neutral is seen as a key step for the current leadership to steady the party ship.
