Jagan Alleges Misuse of Police Machinery Under Chandrababu Government

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led government of misusing the police machinery to suppress political dissent and silence critics. In a post on social media platform X, Jagan alleged that the state was witnessing “rowdy policing” and said Andhra Pradesh needed a police force that functioned according to the Constitution rather than political directives.

Jagan claimed that the government had failed to act promptly in serious criminal cases, including incidents involving missing children, crimes against women, and attacks on vulnerable communities. He referred to several recent cases, alleging delays in investigations and inadequate police action, while accusing the government of prioritising action against those who questioned it on social media instead of focusing on public safety and justice.

The YSRCP chief also alleged that social media activists and YouTubers were being booked under stringent legal provisions to intimidate critics of the government. He described the arrests and criminal cases against certain content creators as an attack on democratic values and constitutional rights, warning that using law enforcement to silence dissent posed a serious threat to democracy in Andhra Pradesh.
