The launch of commercial semiconductor chip production at CG Semi’s Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, has highlighted the growing role of young women from tribal regions in India’s high-tech manufacturing sector. During the inauguration of the facility, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised women from states such as Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh for contributing to the country’s semiconductor industry after completing their training at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
The Prime Minister said the women confidently explained every stage of the chip manufacturing process during his visit to the plant, showcasing the skills they had acquired through technical education and specialised training. He noted that many of them came from modest backgrounds and had transformed their lives through vocational education, becoming part of one of India’s most advanced manufacturing industries.
PM Modi also pointed out that several of these women had travelled to Malaysia for specialised semiconductor training before joining the facility. He said their journey reflected the changing perception of ITI education in India and demonstrated how technical training is creating new opportunities for youth from rural and tribal communities to contribute to the country’s growing “Made in India” semiconductor ecosystem.
