Confusion Persists Over SIR Forms as Voters Face Verification Issues

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls has led to confusion among voters across Telangana, with many struggling to understand the verification process due to inadequate awareness and delays in field visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Reports indicate that in several areas, BLOs have yet to distribute forms or explain the procedure, leaving many voters uncertain about the documentation required and worried about losing their voting rights.

Voters whose names were included in the 2002 electoral rolls are facing additional challenges, including difficulty tracing their old polling station details and discrepancies between past and current records. According to the Election Commission’s guidelines, such voters must fill the first section of the SIR form using their current voter ID details and complete the second section with information from the 2002 electoral roll. The required 2002 voter details can be searched on the Election Commission’s official voter portal.

Those who were not registered as voters in 2002 should fill the first section with their current voter ID information, skip the second section, and instead complete the third section by providing details of their father, mother, grandfather, or grandmother whose names appeared in the 2002 electoral roll. The verification exercise is aimed at updating voter records, removing duplicate voter IDs, and deleting the names of deceased voters from the electoral rolls.
