Bandaru Dattatreya Reunites with Former MISA Co-Prisoner in Mahabubnagar

Former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya visited the residence of Manchena Gunder Rao at Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district on Tuesday while travelling to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to attend a programme. Gunder Rao was imprisoned alongside Dattatreya under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency in 1975, and the two shared their time in Chanchalguda Jail.

Recalling their experiences during the Emergency, Dattatreya said their joint struggle against authoritarian rule had forged a lifelong friendship. During the visit, he honoured Gunder Rao with a ceremonial shawl and praised his sacrifices in defending democracy, describing his patriotism, commitment to democratic values, and contributions during the Emergency as unforgettable.

Dattatreya also lauded Gunder Rao as a respected writer, poet, and spiritually inclined individual. He expressed admiration for Gunder Rao’s continued involvement in spiritual and social service activities even at the age of 83, saying his dedication serves as an inspiration to society. He wished him good health, a long life, and continued happiness.
