Trump Says US Will Continue Iran Talks Despite Declaring Ceasefire Over

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has agreed to continue diplomatic talks with Iran, even as he declared that the ceasefire between the two countries had come to an end following a fresh wave of military confrontations. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had requested the continuation of negotiations, but stressed that Washington had made it clear the ceasefire was no longer in effect.

The announcement came after a sharp escalation in hostilities, with US forces reportedly carrying out large-scale strikes on Iranian military targets, including air defence systems, missile and drone facilities, and naval assets. Iran responded with missile attacks targeting US military bases in Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, while tensions around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz continued to intensify following attacks on commercial vessels.

Despite the renewed conflict, diplomatic efforts remain underway. Reports indicate that Qatari officials have been working to facilitate fresh negotiations between Washington and Tehran in coordination with the United States. While both countries continue to engage in dialogue, major differences remain over the terms of the previous agreement, particularly regarding security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, leaving the region caught between continued military escalation and diplomatic negotiations.
