Mamata Banerjee Faces Fresh Setback as Senior TMC Leader Madan Mitra Quits

West Bengal politics witnessed another major development as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered a fresh setback amid its ongoing internal crisis. Kamarhati MLA Madan Mitra, considered a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, resigned from the party on Wednesday and joined the rebel TMC faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee.

Speaking to the media, Madan Mitra said, “I have not changed my house, only my room in the Assembly. I am still in the TMC,” while criticizing the party for becoming a divided organization. His resignation comes shortly after he was appointed as the party’s General Secretary in May, a position he stepped down from within two weeks.

The party has reportedly been facing increasing internal dissent since its electoral defeat in May. According to the claims, a significant number of TMC MLAs and MPs have shifted to the rebel camp, while several MPs have also extended support to the BJP-led NDA after joining the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). These developments have intensified the political crisis within the TMC.
