Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Seethakka said that El Niño conditions prevailing across the country are also affecting the state. Keeping the upcoming summer and possible water scarcity in mind, she directed Mission Bhagiratha officials to remain on high alert. The minister said the government is taking preventive measures to ensure there is no shortage of drinking water anywhere in the state over the next 100 days and announced that she would personally review the water supply situation every 15 days.
Seethakka warned officials that negligence or laxity in carrying out their duties would invite strict action. She emphasized that ensuring drinking water supply is the top priority and instructed Mission Bhagiratha authorities to monitor the situation closely to avoid any disruption in water distribution during the summer.
The minister also pointed out that the Central Government’s guidelines prioritize drinking water facilities in rural areas. She instructed officials to use the 16th Finance Commission funds to arrange alternative water supply wherever urgent shortages arise. Officials were also directed to improve local water sources, repair non-functional borewells immediately, identify vulnerable villages, and prepare alternative water supply plans within a week.
