Ahead of the conclusion of the Parliament Monsoon Session, the BJP has challenged the Opposition Congress over the ongoing controversy surrounding student protests, alleged police lathi-charge and claims involving pellet guns. While the government says Union Home Minister Amit Shah is ready for a detailed discussion on the issue, Congress has made it clear that its protests will continue until Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologises. The Congress has also demanded that Amit Shah take responsibility for the alleged police action against students. Opposition parties have repeatedly disrupted proceedings in Parliament amid the controversy.
Against this backdrop, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi strongly criticised the Opposition. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi leaves the House during parliamentary proceedings and travels abroad after Parliament sessions. Challenging the Opposition, Trivedi said, “Do not be afraid, do not run away. Listen to what Amit Shah has to say in the House.” He reiterated that the Home Minister is prepared for a comprehensive discussion on the student protests and is willing to respond to questions raised by the Opposition rather than merely making a statement.
The BJP maintained that the government is ready to address the concerns of the Opposition on the floor of the House. However, the Congress continues to demand accountability over the alleged police action against protesting students and has insisted that the Prime Minister apologise before the issue can be resolved.
