Russia’s attacks on Ukraine are raising fresh concerns after a Russian drone reportedly struck a passenger train near the Ukraine-Poland border. The incident took place in the Yahodyn area, just around two kilometres from the border. The drone hit the train’s engine, but there were no casualties. Authorities had evacuated all passengers from the train before the incident.
The incident has drawn additional attention because former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and several European security officials had travelled on another train along the same railway route shortly before the attack. The group was returning after attending a meeting in Kyiv when the incident occurred.
UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell was also reportedly part of the delegation. The incident has raised concerns over the growing proximity of the conflict to European borders, particularly as the drone strike occurred in an area located just a few kilometres from Poland, a NATO member.
