During the recent BRICS summit in New Delhi, security arrangements were tightened as several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, arrived in the capital. However, a police constable deployed for security duty allegedly made social media reels while carrying firearms. After photos and videos of the incident went viral, senior officials took the matter seriously, suspended the constable and ordered a departmental inquiry.
The constable, identified as Deepak Bangar, was posted with the Foreigners Cell in Northwest Delhi. During the BRICS summit, he was assigned sniper duty on the rooftop of a five-star hotel where foreign delegates were staying. Officials reportedly found that he had recorded reels while on duty, appearing with firearms and wearing different outfits.
In one video, Bangar was seen wearing a black casual shirt and posing with a light machine gun, appearing to take aim, before the camera shifted toward the cityscape at night. In another video, he was seen with a pistol tucked into his pocket and wearing the identification card issued for BRICS security duties. The videos quickly spread across social media and came to the attention of the Delhi Police, leading to disciplinary action.
