PM Matru Vandana Yojana: Providing ₹11,000 Financial Aid to Pregnant Women

Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), the Central Government provides significant financial assistance to pregnant women and lactating mothers to ensure proper nutrition and healthcare. The scheme offers a total of ₹11,000 across two pregnancies to support women, especially those from low-income families who may lose wages during pregnancy. For the first child, mothers receive ₹5,000 in three installments, while an additional ₹6,000 is provided in a single installment if the second child is a girl, aiming to encourage the birth and welfare of female children.

The distribution of funds for the first child is strategically timed to ensure the health of both mother and baby. The first installment is released upon the registration of pregnancy, the second after at least one antenatal check-up, and the third following the registration of the birth and the completion of the first cycle of vaccinations. This structured approach ensures that the financial aid directly correlates with essential maternal and neonatal health milestones, with payments deposited directly into the beneficiary’s bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

To be eligible for PMMVY in 2026, the applicant must be at least 19 years old, and the family’s annual income should not exceed ₹8 lakhs. The application must be submitted within 270 days of the child’s birth to qualify for the benefits. Interested women can apply online through the official portal at pmmvy.wcd.gov.in by uploading necessary documents like an ID card, bank passbook, and medical reports. Alternatively, applications can be processed offline at local Anganwadi centers or government primary health centers.
