Kavitha’s New Party Gets EC Nod: TRS Returns as Telangana Rakshana Sena

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially recognized the new political party founded by former MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, providing a significant boost to her political journey. While she originally proposed the name ‘Telangana Rashtra Sena,’ the commission approved ‘Telangana Rakshana Sena’ due to technical guidelines. Despite the slight variation in the full name, the acronym remains TRS, allowing the leader to retain the iconic branding associated with her past political identity.

Kavitha, who was previously expelled from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), launched this party with a primary focus on achieving 50% reservations for OBCs and advocating for the social aspirations of Telangana. While BRS leaders had speculated that the ECI would not grant recognition to a name so similar to a historic party, the commission’s approval came as a surprise to many. By strategically choosing a name that abbreviates to TRS, Kavitha has managed to reclaim a powerful political symbol in the state.

Expressing her joy over the recognition, Kavitha remarked that the name TRS was perhaps “destined” for her. She noted that out of the five options submitted in January 2026—which included names like Telangana Praja Jagriti and Telangana Praja Shakti—the ECI selected her third preference, Telangana Rakshana Sena. She pledged to continue her two-decade-long commitment to the cultural preservation and identity of Telangana through this new political platform, vowing to work with dedication for the welfare of its people.
