Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei declared on Thursday that a “new chapter” is being established in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. In a message commemorating the National Day of Persian Gulf, he introduced a new “legal framework” and management system for the strategic waterway, asserting that these changes will advance the development and comfort of all regional nations. Khamenei spotlighted Iran’s historical “sacrifices” for the region’s independence and characterized the Islamic Revolution as a pivotal turning point in resisting foreign “aggressors”.
The Supreme Leader emphasized that the future of the Persian Gulf must be “free of America,” arguing that U.S. military presence is the primary cause of regional insecurity. He dismissed the effectiveness of American military bases, claiming they can barely guarantee their own safety, let alone protect their allies. Khamenei stated that neighbors in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman share a common destiny, while meddling foreigners have no rightful place in the region.
Khamenei also affirmed that Iran will guard its national assets—including nuclear, missile, nano, and bio technologies—with the same intensity it defends its physical borders. He claimed that the 90 million Iranian people at home and abroad view these scientific innovations as a collective heritage. By securing the waterway and eliminating hostile abuses, Iran aims to ensure a future of peace and prosperity for the peoples of the Persian Gulf.
