Congress MP Manickam Tagore has dismissed the credibility of recent exit polls, stating that the true mandate of the people will only be revealed on the scheduled counting day. Speaking to IANS, Tagore emphasized that the public has already delivered its verdict and urged against the manipulation of the mandate in the 48 hours leading up to the official results. He maintained that the actual outcome would only be clear on May 4.
The MP’s comments follow a series of contrasting projections for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which featured a three-cornered contest between the DMK-led alliance, the AIADMK-BJP alliance, and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Notably, the Axis My India survey predicted a potential debut victory for the TVK with 98 to 120 seats, while placing the DMK in the 92 to 110 range and the AIADMK between 22 and 32 seats. These fragmented predictions highlight the competitive nature of the election, which saw a high voter turnout of 85.13% on April 24.
While waiting for the counting of votes for both Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on May 4, electoral activities have continued with repolling in West Bengal. On Saturday, voting was conducted at 15 polling stations across the South 24 Parganas district, covering booths in the Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour constituencies. Enhanced security measures were put in place for these sessions, with voters noting improved arrangements during the repoll process.
